True Beauty Is Innate

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” they say. “True beauty comes from within,” they add. These two things are true. We all get a say on our beauty and we truly are. There are people who like to dress up and put on products that make them feel more beautiful such as skincare products and makeup. Sometimes, they even go the extra mile and get cosmetic surgery. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. On the other hand, there are people who accept themselves for who they are and like to live simpler lives. They don’t put on anything on their skin, and they are fine with just a tee and jeans and with unkempt hair. There is also absolutely nothing wrong with that. Because beauty is about how we feel empowered. We get to have a say on what we do with our bodies. We don’t have to feel pressured to comply with society’s standards of beauty because these standards change over time. It is also absolutely okay to follow trends if you wish to if you are capable of doing so, and if that is what makes you happy, but only to the extent of being happy. Beauty is something that is innate, there must be no pressure, no force.

When it comes to body beauty, of course, we must all take care of our bodies for the sake of our health. But there are also times when specific body types are being criticized because they seem to not be “beautiful enough” but that is not true. Again, nobody must be forced to conform to body standards because these things are all illusions. We are all born unique and no two bodies are exactly the same. We are born with different bone structures, skin colors, height, and metabolism. Therefore, some people may be on the skinnier side and some may be curvier. Others may tend to be athletic and some petite. But that is the beauty of bodies, that there is variety. Nobody must be shamed for being on the thinner side, and no one must be forced to lose weight just because he/she is considered as curvier or thicker. We all have beautiful bodies that we must love. Our bodies love us enough that it fights diseases to keep us healthy, thus, we must love it and take care of it too and not hate it just because other people do not accept us for our acne, our stretch marks, or our cellulite. It does not matter if you are 6 feet tall or if you stand at 4 feet. It doesn’t matter if you are a size 00 or a size 14. These are all just numbers. Don’t let them define you.

Sometimes, when we browse through Instagram, we see a picture of a woman in a bikini with perfect skin, chiseled abs, cup C breasts, and 36-inch hips and wish we look just like her. But our bodies have gone through so much and they took us all the way where we are now. Trust me, you wouldn’t want to be anyone but yourself. You may not look like a Vogue cover girl or your favorite athlete, but you are you and you are beautiful just the way you are.
